Overview

3 CEs Recorded: Spring, 2025

Movement has been used to promote healing across cultures since the beginning of time. It is also an accessible and culturally appropriate supplement to traditional therapeutic work.

With advances in exercise science, we are now able to understand how specific movement techniques can impact clinical presentation.

In this workshop, you will develop an understanding of the biomechanics and neuroscience of movement and exercise and learn how to correlate these physiological changes with the somatic and neurobiological adaptations of trauma. Lastly, you will learn specific movement strategies and tools to address various clinical symptoms. The tools learned here are intended to be accessible across culture, physical fitness, body size, and economic status.

Knowledge will be gleaned from exercise physiology, yoga, Dance and Movement Therapies, and somatics and combined with a Health at Every Size, anti-diet, and disabled-friendly movement approach.

By the end of this training, clinicians will leave with a diverse toolbox in movement healing, along with the knowledge and cognitive frameworks to adapt these principles to their specific clinical population.

Objectives:   Develop an intermediate understanding of the somatic and neurological effects of trauma.  Learn about the biomechanical and neurological effects of movement.  Identify when and how movement can assist with specific clinical presentations.  Practice skills to manage mental health symptoms.
