***Aja Burks, Ph.D., LMSW,*** the owner of Transformative Mind Counseling LLC., received her master’s degree in clinical social work from Michigan State University and a Ph.D. in Counseling Education and Supervision at Wayne State University. Her dissertation is titled, A longitudinal exploration of the perception of ruptures and repairs in cross-racial supervision. Aja has been a featured panelist at numerous conferences and workshops on the topic of mental health and trauma in the African American community. Aja’s research interests include anti-racism pedagogy and practices in counseling education, race-based stress and trauma impact on client care, and culturally responsive and inclusive therapy and supervision. Aja's passion is purely in teaching, research and creating a space to have dialog on race and cultural issues, in counseling and on campus. ***Dominique Avery, PhD, NCC, LPC (ID), LMHC (WA)*** is core faculty in the Counseling Department at Saybrook University. She has conducted national and regional presentations on topics such as White counselor anti-racist accountability, anti-racist teaching, crisis and trauma education, licensure portability, and mixed methods research. Her leadership and research are focused on anti-racism in counseling and counselor education and she serves on university and professional organization committees dedicated to the work. She is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with experience in EMDR counseling with adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse and has worked with refugee children and families by bringing play-based therapy into their homes. Prior to becoming a counselor, Dominique spent a decade working with children and adolescents in shelter home settings, wilderness therapy in the deserts of Idaho, and forest schools in the woodlands of England.

Albert Sheldon, MD

Albert Sheldon, MD, a clinical professor of psychiatry at the University of Washington, Seattle, has specialized in the research, practice and training of psychotherapy for 35 years. Dr Sheldon practiced as a primary care physician for ten years before completing his training in psychiatry. He received a Bush Medical Fellowship to study psycho-therapeutic processes from a psycho-physiological perspective. In collaboration with his wife, they have discovered and developed a new neuro-biological paradigm that applies the concepts and knowledge of Integration and Neuroscience in psychotherapy: Complex Integration of Multiple Brain Systems. This approach integrates recent research on neuroplasticity, brain development, and therapeutic change. Their book, Complex Integration of Multiple Brain Systems in Therapy, was published by Norton in 2021.

B Lourenco is a licensed mental health counselor, educator, advocate, and activist. B has been working in community support for 15 years and is committed to social change on all system levels. Seeing mental health as a way to serve the community, she earned a Master of Arts degree in Clinical Psychology, with a Systems Emphasis, in 2015 and began her private practice in 2017. B has also worked in the public school system, providing support to students with behavioral issues that made attending school challenging for them. Highly trained in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), B became a district-wide expert in supporting neurodivergent students. It was during this work that she began to be critical of the current models of support for neurodivergence, including ABA. Making the shift from the medical to the affirming model has allowed her to finally identify her own neurodivergence, including Autism and ADHD. Combining her lived experience of neurodivergence, along with years of anti-oppression work, B is passionate about helping others untangle themselves from harmful practices and align themselves with those that instead support marginalized communities. In addition to her work in neurodiversity, B is also a sex and relationship therapist, specializing in ethical non-monogamy and kink exploration. She has been a speaker on panels and podcasts, as well as facilitating therapeutic workshops in her area of Washington State.

Brenda Butterfield, EdD, MSW, LMHC

Dr. Brenda S. Butterfield is founder of Our New Experience (ONE), LLC in Redmond, WA. She has been a mental health professional for over 30 years serving children, youth, families and communities in the US and abroad. In her clinical work, Dr. Butterfield uses an integrative, whole person perspective to support development of each human’s full potential. Knowing there are many paths to peace of mind, she uses a variety of therapeutic approaches anchored in mindfulness, cognitive behavioral therapy and other phenomenological self-care practices all supported by scientific data as effective. In addition to individual and group therapy, Dr. Butterfield teaches Mindful meditation classes, facilitates retreats and presents a variety of seminars and professional development trainings for mental health practitioners and other caregivers locally and nationally. Prior to founding Our New Experience Dr. Butterfield was an award-winning faculty member of the Psychology Department at the University of Minnesota Duluth receiving multiple awards from students, colleagues, and community organizations for teaching excellence and leadership. She has presented at national and international conferences and was invited to serve as a Guest Lecturer teaching psychology courses at the University of Birmingham in England in 2008. Dr. Butterfield is an innovative teacher in part due her unique educational background with degrees and in education, psychology and social work. The nexus of her training combined with her wide array of clinical experience in child welfare, mental health, substance abuse, and higher education in the US, England, Africa and the Middle East is likely why clients and colleagues describe her work as “inspiring, authentic and transformative.” Dr. Butterfield earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Minnesota-Duluth in 1989 a Masters in Social Work from the University of Washington in 1998 and a Doctorate Degree in Education from the University of Minnesota in 2014, specializing in the Psychology of Teaching and Learning. Her professional work has always been challenging and rewarding but her greatest learning and satisfaction continues to come from being an adoptive and biological mom of two children. Lived experience has taught Dr. Butterfield about the necessity of developing an Essential-Self Care Practice by recognizing, surviving and eventually befriending mental illness in her own family. Bruce Spencer

She is the Founder and President of First Bulgarian Organization for Eating Disorders -Association UNIKAL since 2011, and for UNIKAL Online Institute, since October 2018. Since November 2016, she has served as the iaedp™ International Chapter Chair of Bulgaria. Dr Linda Gromko

Linda Gromko founded Seattle's Queen Anne Medical Associates in 1989, with a focus on women's health and obstetrics. Then in 1998, a caller asked, Does Dr. Gromko treat transgender women? Her answer was, "Not yet." So Dr. Gromko began offering transgender care for clients - now ranging from five to eighty-five. She offers puberty blockers, gender affirming hormone treatment, and pre and post-operative care for patients undergoing gender affirming surgeries. Along with three outstanding ARNPs, Dr. Gromko provides primary care for most of her clients. The practice also offers electrolysis and laser hair removal with anesthesia. Dr. Gromko has written two books on trans health and is a frequent lecturer for both professional and lay audiences. Now, her mission is to provide accessible information for parents, educators, and health care providers to do better with and for the transgender and gender non-conforming community. Her previous degrees include a Master of Science in clinical mental health counseling, a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. She is the owner and founder of Soulfulness Counseling, LLC, a private practice dedicated to serving women who have been exposed to early childhood trauma, in addition to being a Clinical Faculty at Southern New Hampshire university. An expert on minority women’s mental health needs, she has served as a consultant and speaker for several nonprofits and agencies. In addition to her numerous service roles, she also serves as the Associate Editor for The Professional Counselor, an open- access peer-reviewed counseling journal dedicated to advancing knowledge in the counseling field. As a counselor educator, Dr. Valli maintains a special commitment to experiential education when training graduate students in counseling. Her expertise in counseling skills, assessment in counseling, and trauma and crisis counseling are deeply appreciated by her colleagues and students. Her areas of research interest include international student mental health, AAPI mental health. Currently, she serves as a full-time Clinical Faculty at Southern New Hampshire University in the Counseling program. Dreya Blume, LCSW

Dreya Blume (she/her) is a licensed clinical social worker, psychotherapist, author, and educator. Dreya began working in the mental health field in 2004 in southwest Virginia, where she spent almost two decades serving the local transgender community as a gender therapist. She recently moved to Durham, NC, where she focuses on offering continuing education training to therapists and coaching for private practice clinicians who want to expand their business uniquely. Emily is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Substance Use Disorder Professional and a clinical supervisor with the state of Washington. Emily has a private practice that is telehealth based with an office in South King County. She sees adults, teens and couples. Emily has also been involved in training and teaching and has done so with NW ATTC, the Washington Mental Health Counselor’s Association, City University of Seattle and she has been a guest speaking at a variety of schools in the greater Seattle area. Throughout her career she has worked in crisis management and stabilization primarily with youth and young adults. This work was done in a community based mental health agency, as the lead for a crisis outreach team and as a mental health evaluator at Seattle Children’s Hospital emergency room. Dr. Tanya is the co-founder and CEO of Colorful Minds Psychotherapy Collective. She is a neurodivergent, queer, Cuban-American counselor educator, clinical supervisor, and licensed mental health counselor in both Florida and Washington state. Dr. Tanya provides virtual clinical supervision, mental health consultation and psychotherapy through her private practice, Evolve Counseling Center, LLC. She also currently teaches as Adjunct Faculty at Antioch University Seattle. Dr. Tanya’s clinical experience includes inpatient acute psychiatric stabilization, college counseling centers, and ambulatory substance abuse detox. She opened her private practice in 2014, and was an early adopter of telehealth, or online counseling. Dr. Tanya has presented original research on distance counseling, distance supervision, and culturally competent counseling pedagogy at national conferences including the American Counseling Association, Association for Counselor Education and Supervision, and Association for Specialists in Group Work. She co-wrote a CCE-Global certification curriculum for Distance Counseling (2014-2017), and developed training and courses on online counseling for Antioch University Seattle’s Clinical Mental Health Counseling program. Dr. Tanya has supervised over a dozen pre-licensed clinicians, and taught hundreds of masters and doctoral counseling students as a professor at Antioch University Seattle, Barry University, Nova Southeastern University, and The Chicago School of Professional Psychology. Currently her clinical work focuses on supporting adults who are recovering from harmful religious or spiritual experiences, as well neurodivergent adults who are exploring their unique minds. Dr. Tanya is passionate about supporting counselors and clients to build lives that are custom built for their needs and preferences. Dr. Tanya enjoys mentoring and supporting all Colorful Minds Collective clinicians. In a landscape of telehealth companies and agencies that require psychotherapists to work long hours and see many clients a day, many neurodivergent and/or chronically ill clinicians are only able to sustainably practice psychotherapy in private practice. This provides autonomy over their time, caseloads, and environment. Clinicians who are able to take control over their work are better able to care for their clients, improving clinical outcomes. Teresa Kirchner, LICSW

Teresa has worked over 25 years in residential treatment, case management, mental health court, shelters, and many community mental health programs. Since 2006 she has worked on two in patient psychiatric units and as team lead for a partial hospitalization program. Collaborating in creative ways to identify individualized strategies to navigate interpersonal conflict, internal conflict, and the impact of trauma for lasting outcomes has been a large part of her work with individuals and families. She enjoys teaching about interpersonal neurobiology, neurodiversity, and utilizing a wide variety of therapies in her practice. Teresa volunteered for 10 years on the Board of Directors for Peer Services at CVAB, and the last 5 years she has been volunteering as a group facilitator for the Hearing Voices Network. She is a strong advocate for peer-driven services. She has also been providing supervision to social workers since 2017, and continues to enjoy teaching and learning while providing group and individual clinical supervision in her current practice.

Thom Field, PhD, is Associate Professor and Department Head for Counselor, Adult, and Higher Education at Oregon State University. He previously worked as a faculty member at Boston University School of Medicine. In addition to faculty responsibilities, he has actively helped clients with mental health concerns since 2006. He has provided counseling to more than 1,000 clients during his career and currently maintains a small private practice. He has provided test prep since 2011 and has worked with hundreds of counselors to pass the CPCE, NCE, and NCMHCE exams.

Travis Damico, MN, ARNP is an AASECT certified Sex Therapist currently working out of Seattle and has experience in healthcare for over 25 years, has served as a staff RN in various medical/surgical and psychiatric settings, and has been in private practice since 2011. Travis has taught for NWIOI since 2015.
