Effective recordkeeping is vital to effective clinical work and is a key part of sound professional practice. In this workshop we will examine Washington State and Federal legal standards regarding clinical documentation. We will also discuss documentation best-practices to support effective clinical work while minimizing risk of liability. Participants will gain increased understanding of the current standards regarding clinical documentation. This course is intended to meet ethics continuing education requirements.

Law & Ethics of Telehealth: 2023 Update-WMHCA

This 2 hour law & ethics seminar is designed to present an update to the legal and ethical considerations of telehealth practice. In this seminar we will discuss current Washington State and Federal telehealth laws, liability and informed consent relating to telehealth, and the range of applicable ethical codes. Particular focus will be on the impacts of the end of the Federally Declared COVID Emergency.

We will discuss new Washington State and Federal telehealth laws, as well as legal standards that have been revoked or amended. We will also discuss some changes that are just over the horizon.

This 3-hour law & ethics workshop is designed to help you identify, clarify, and apply current legal and ethical standards to the complicated context of relational work. Participants will have the opportunity to discover the guidance provided by state law, federal law, and a range of applicable ethics codes. In addition to case studies and scenarios, participants are encouraged to share their own experiences, questions, and thoughts.

Law and Ethics of Social Media and On-line Communications: WMHCA

While social media and other social networking platforms can provide clinicians with powerful and effective communication tools, they also have the potential to create a range of challenges. In this workshop we will address the legal and ethical implications of using social media and online communications by behavioral health professionals. We will identify and discuss the evolving standards found in state law and in the professional codes of ethics. Participants will gain the ability to identify and implement a legally and ethically sound approach to online communications and social media in both clinical and in non-clinical roles. This course is intended to meet Law and Ethics CE requirements.

The topic of legal and ethical standards regarding abuse and threats of harm can be highly stress-inducing for many behavioral health professionals. It does not need to be that way! In this 6 hour continuing education, we will discuss several aspects of professional standards informing legal and ethical responses to reports of abuse and lethality.

In this workshop we will examine Washington State legal and ethical standards regarding releasing client information within the legal system. We will also discuss best-practices to support effective clinical work with clients while minimizing exposure to liability. This course is intended to meet Law & Ethics CEU requirements.
